Interested in Being a Foster Carer?
There are 4 main frequently asked questions that are raised by prospective carers. We have endeavoured to summarise the information below:
A. Who can become a foster carer?
- You can be single, married or living with your partner
- You must be over 21 years and have at least one spare room, in your home, which you can own or rent
- We would welcome carers who come from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- You will need energy, patience, tolerance, and a positive outlook on life, with a good sense of humour
- You must be committed to attending on-going training.
B. What support do carers receive?

- NT&AS will assist with all education issues, such as admission, introduction, curriculum management, homework and any other educational needs
- Support workers and short-term breaks for children requiring more support
- Our social work team work with local authorities to ensure communication, and information is up to date, and that children’s care plans are implemented.
D. What is the process of becoming a carer?
- Please complete the on-line registration form (click here for form) or contact our office
- One of our social workers, usually Dave Edwards, will then contact you and answer any further questions in more detail
- You will receive an information pack, and a follow up call 2-3 weeks later to see if you are interested in arranging an initial visit to your home
- All applicants must attend an induction programme, and then undertake a BAAF Form F competency based assessment, involving every member of your immediate family in your household
- All applicants and adult members within the household need to have statutory checks completed prior to going to our fostering panel.
